ManTaR Ltd
Never more than enough!
Developing Internet and Intranet Systems for Tenants and Residents in Manchester & beyond.
The Initial Purpose :
to create affordable, effective & efficient communications and information solutions for specific groups of users.
- Initially, to develop connection between the Bentley Estate (Redbricks), in Hulme, Manchester, and the Internet at Portland Tower, utilizing XTML bandwidth for Internet access and the hosting of servers.
- Initially, the connections between the buildings to be provided by Radio LAN at 3Mbps, with the hardware owned by ManTaR.
This initial 3Mbps feed will supply the local estate network, the responsibility of the local Tenants Association. These will have 10Mbps or 100Mbps backbones within the buildings and 10/100Mbps network cards in the computers of users.
- Initially the Internet porting to be supplied at 128Kbps.
- Initially, one HP server running NT - with minimum 128Kbps Internet porting access. Also the hosting of one HP server running LINUX, to provide an alternative operating system (OS) platform to Microsoft's NT Server.
The responsibilities of ManTaR are between Portland Tower and the user Tenant Associations (TAs) and similar bodies. XTML provides the Internet access. The local TA's and similar bodies, with the support of the Tenant & Residents Associations Informaion Network (TRAIN), are responsible for network development and management on their estate, and the management of users and contributions.
Payments from end users to be managed locally and forwarded to ManTaR Ltd. (Payments are currently SterlingŁ12 + LETSŁ28 per month for users @ Redbricks Online)
The Opportunity :
- The creation of a technical tool kit, online, that any geographically closely connected community can use to provide communications and information systems that all members of that community can use.
- The creation of a supporting legal and financial tool kit, online, that members of communities can use for this and other projects within their communities.
The Targets :
- To never use more than enough to create a City wide resilient Metropolitan "Overnet" Network usable by all tenants and residents who wish to actively engage. This to provide high quality communications between individual and group users, with useful information gathering and processing facilities.
- To create adequate initial capitalisation to pay all hardware, software and set-up costs and porting for one year of operation.
- To grow the paying user base of tenants and residents to pay ongoing costs and to return the initial shareholder investment to ManTaR Ltd.
The Technical Plan :
Communications at Redbricks,
Including Radio LAN, HP servers, hosted with porting to the backbone by XTML, and the growth of Redbricks Online Intranet.
